-Essentials for treks: Walking shoes/boots or sandals with good treads, comfortable clothing–eg. cotton tee & shorts/tracks, small back pack, flashlight (and spare batteries), a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent lotion (for evenings) and of course a CAMERA to capture beautiful memories!.

Mar-Oct

Light woollens/Jackets for early mornings & evenings. Water proof shoes or Sandals* with treads that offer good grip for treks & sightseeing trips, rain suits & umbrellas, small waterproof back pack, flashlight (and spare batteries), insect repellent lotion (for evenings) and a camera. Add your Swimming wear for your baths in mountain streams.

*Shoes are best avoided as they can be a pain to dry in present high humidity conditions. 

Nov-Feb

Heavy woollens/Jackets & caps for early mornings & evenings. Light woollens/Jackets for day. Trekking Shoes* with treads that offer good grip for treks & sightseeing trips, small back pack, flashlight (and spare batteries), insect repellent lotion (for evenings) and of course camera. Add your Swimming wear for your swims in natural pools.

There are two major nationalized banks (State Bank of India & Punjab National Bank) and two co-operative banks in Cherrapunji town. There are 3 ATMs in the town (one ATM attached to the 2 major banks & one at the Petrol Pump/Gas Station).

Cash is the main payment mode at most of the entry points, parking lots, restaurants and hotels. However there are some exceptions:

  • Orange Roots, a Pure Vegetarian Restaurant at Cherrapunji accepts Card & UPI Payments
  • Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort accepts Card & UPI Payments, Bank Transfers for their guests
